Mid-Point

The last six weeks have been a whirlwind - it 's mid February already! Now is the time to ask yourself where you are against your plans for the first quarter.

The midway point on anything is a terrific time to check-in against your intentions. Half way through, enough time has passed for planning to have settled down and for progress to have been made. I use mid-point check-ins for:

Priorities - usually organized by time:  day / week / month / quarter / year

Commitments - usually projects: overall midpoint of project schedule / critical path item midpoints

A few questions to ask:

  • Am I on path to get the most important things done?
  • Did I get sidetracked?
  • Should I get back on track and how?
  • Or adjust my goal?

We all get distracted by the 10,000 things of daily life and lose focus on our goals. Sometimes the unexpected can actually be more important than what we had planned. Be conscious about where you stand against your goals, and why. Encourage your staff to do the same and to communicate status and any necessary resets.
